You're Stop 12 of 20: The Customer App's Live Route Map for HVAC Customers

A text that says “your tech is on the way” answers the question for the moment. It does not help the customer who wants to know at 10am whether to run to the store or stay home. For that, they need to see where they sit in the day. The HVACBossPro customer app shows them: today's route on a live map, with a line like “You're stop 12 of 20 — the crew is 5 stops away.”

The Next Step After Texts

Automatic alerts are covered in On-the-Way and Arrived Texts: HVAC Dispatch Updates the Office Doesn't Have to Send. The live map builds on them. Texts tell the customer when something happens. The map lets them check for themselves at any time.

What the Customer Sees

On the day of their visit, a customer who opens the app sees the van's route on a live map and their own position in it. They see how many stops are ahead of them and how far away the crew is. As the tech works through the day and taps Complete on each job, the count goes down.

The map is designed for the customer's question, not for showing off the route. A customer sees their place in line and how close the van is, which is all they need to plan their morning.

Why It Matters for HVAC

Most HVAC visits need someone home. The tech needs to get into the closet, the attic, the basement, or at least to the thermostat. A tune-up customer who can see that they are stop 9 of 10 knows they have time to run an errand. A no-cool customer who can see the van is two stops away knows help is close and stops calling the office.

On busy days, the live map takes pressure off everyone. The office does not have to look up where the van is. The tech does not get calls asking when they will arrive. The customer does not sit by the window guessing.

The Route Order Matters More Now

Once customers can see the route, the order on the board becomes something customers notice. A customer told “morning” who sees they are stop 14 of 15 will call. That makes careful routing more important:

Everything Else in the Customer App

The live route map is one part of the customer app. Customers can also:

For dispatch, service requests are the most useful piece. A customer who requests service from the app is already linked to their address and equipment record, so the office can schedule them without asking for details again.

Where the Map Gets Its Information

The customer's view comes from the same place as the office board: the van's jobs in route order and the tech's taps as the day moves. The office has its own map too, showing every van's live position, covered in Crew GPS on the Office Map: Sending the Closest HVAC Van. When a job gets skipped or moved, it comes off the route, which is why the office follows up with the customer, as described in Rescheduling and Skips: Handling HVAC Calls That Don't Go as Planned.

Getting Customers to Use It

The app only helps if customers know about it. Practical ways to introduce it: mention it on the phone when booking, include it in the first text a new customer receives, and remind maintenance plan customers about it before their spring tune-up. Once a customer has watched the van approach on the map once, they tend to check it every visit. For how the customer app fits with the rest of dispatch, see the HVACBossPro HVAC dispatch software page.
